A great honor for “Sreda” is to welcome Remir Lopatkin in a jury team. He is one of the leading Russian sociologists who deals with issues of religion. For 28 years he has headed the Research Committee “Sociology of Religion” of the Soviet Sociological Association, and then Russian Society of Sociologists. Actually scientific work of Remir Lopatkin is combined with teaching and supervising students: he was a scientific advisor for 25 PhD students. His advice has always been very helpful for novice researchers, and we are confident that his experience will be valuable to us and our competitors.

Canadian antropologist Sonja Luehrmann is engaged in questions of human transformability: how people live their lives through shifting socioeconomic and political conditions, and how various religious and secular institutions appeal to the human capacity to change habits and convictions, while attempting to steer it in particular directions. Her current ethnographic research focuses on anti-abortion activism in the post-Soviet Russian Orthodox Church, where activists attempt to transform popular attitudes toward past and present reproductive decisions. Together with colleagues from the United States, Russia, and Hungary, she is involved in a collaborative project investigating the relationship between sensory impressions and ethical ideas in Orthodox Christian prayer.
