05/11/2011The results of the All-Russian representative survey conducted by the service SREDA (field work: Public Opinion Foundation “PENTA”, sample 1500 people)
Almost half of Russians do not consider the social and political activity of the Russian Orthodox Church to be excessive. In contrast, only a quarter (26%) of respondents consider its activity to be excessive.
The respondent were asked: “Do you consider the following statement to be true or false: the social and political activity of the Russian Orthodox has becoming excessive in recent years?”
48% of Russians do not agree with the statement that the recent socio-political activity of the ROC (Russian Orthodox Church) has become excessive.
More often than on average, people with higher or incomplete higher education disagree with the statement about excessive activity of the ROC. Also, residents of small towns (less than 50,000 inhabitants) and large villages, as well as Orthodox Christians are less likely to agree with this statement than on average. 54% of Orthodox Christians belonging to the Russian Orthodox Church believe this assertion to be the wrong (probably not true).

26% of Russians find the socio-political activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in recent years to be excessive. This response was most often selected by non-believers (36%), wealthier respondents (those able to buy a car) – 35%, as well as entrepreneurs and managers (32%). Also in this group were students and pupils (33%).
Muscovites (36%) and residents of the Central Federal District (30%) are more likely to respond positively (i.e. they consider activities of the ROC to be excessive). However, even among residents of the Central Federal District, 41% disagreed with the statement that the socio-political activity of the Russian Orthodox Church is excessive.
More likely to disagree with the statement that the socio-political activity of the Russian Orthodox Church is excessive are electorally active citizens (49%). On the contrary, those who support the Liberal Democratic Party agree with the statement more often than average.
